  • Fuel and Utility Assistance
    • Department of Housing and Community Services. Fuel Assistance, Weatherization, Heating-System Services, City Town Listing Page.
    • The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), is a government program to help low-income families and individuals pay heating bills during the winter. There are income guidelines for eligibility, and benefits range from $330 to $490 per heating season.
    • New England Farm Workers Council offers the low-income energy program (LIHEAP) for Hampden and Worcester County, 1628-1640 Main Street, Springfield, MA 01103
    • The Citizens Energy Oil Heat Program offers half-price heating oil to low income people and the elderly. Each eligible household is allowed a one-time delivery of home heating oil at this price per heating season.
    • The Good Neighbor Energy Fund helps people in need pay for their winter heat and other energy bills. The Fund is designed for people who are in need, but don not quality for other fuel assistance programs. It is a joint effort between electric utility companies and The Salvation Army. The maximum benefit from the Fund is $275 per household.
    • Massachusetts Community Action Agencies offer energy assistance programs.
